And IF the Forum is somehow keeping a local copy of the linked file, then the EXIF might be more available to the Forum software?Īnyway, this is all idle speculation on my part, and it is beginning to look like the Forum software will never be capable of displaying the EXIF for linked files unless someone is willing to invest the resources needed to add that functionality. But I still can't explain why the unedited version was still being shown on the Forum if, as you say, 'The forum software does nothing else than embedding the image served by the smugmug server' because at that point, the unedited version should not have been available on SmugMug. I finally discovered SmugMug had given my edited image a slightly different URL, which explains why the edited image did not automatically appear on the Forum after I uploaded it. No idea how this stuff really works, just guessing. At that point, I was beginning to wonder if the Forum was somehow keeping a copy of my original linked image in some kind of cache. I emptied by brower cache several times, quit Safari, refreshed the Forum page, etc. The un-edited version continued to be displayed on the Forum long after it had been removed from SmugMug. Then I edited the photo in Lightroom and uploaded the edited image to SmugMug, which replaced the original. I added a photo to the Fourm by linking to it on SmugMug. But I did see something I cannot explain, as described on, but more concise version below.
